What It Does
The framework is a MapTool add-on with its own window. Type /sta in chat to open it.
Roll tab
The Full Task Roll
Attribute and department, focus, Difficulty and GM modifiers, complication range, buying dice with Momentum or Threat, Determination, the ship’s assist die, assists, opposed rolls and Succeed at Cost. Then it applies the result: injuries, ship damage, shields and breaches.
Actions tab
Every Action, by Station
Every 2E bridge station, personal combat, social, medical and repair action, plus Momentum and Threat spends, each with its rules and ready to roll.
Extended tab
Extended Tasks
Extended tasks and extended consequences with their progress and trouble tracks, Resistance, breakthroughs and setbacks. Players roll toward a task and mark their progress straight from the result.
Character tab
Your Crew
Stress and Fatigue, Determination, injuries and Protection, values, focuses, talents, traits and weapons. Click a talent or trait to read its full text.
Ship tab
Your Starship
Shields, Resistance, Reserve Power, rerouted power, breaches and weapons, with damage worked out for you.
GM tab
Running the Table
Momentum and Threat for everyone to see, starting a mission, ending a scene, Difficulty modifiers, and NPCs who side with the crew for a scene. Hover over any token for a stat sheet.
A Look Inside
The Download
- STA2e.mtlib — the framework add-on
- STA2e-TokenTypes.mtprops — the STA2e Character and STA2e Ship token types, imported into each campaign
- INSTALL.md — step-by-step setup and use
- STA2e-preview.html — opens in any web browser with sample characters, so you can try the window without MapTool
Quick Start
- In MapTool, open Edit → Campaign Properties → Token Properties, press Import and choose
STA2e-TokenTypes.mtprops. - Drag
STA2e.mtlibonto the map (or use File → Add On Libraries → Add). - Type
/stain chat to open the window. - Bring in your characters and ships (below). Then press Make active ship on the Ship tab, and Start mission on the GM tab.
Token types are saved in the campaign file, so import them again for each new campaign. The full guide is INSTALL.md in the download.
Your Crew and Ship
Make them in the Star Trek Adventures character builder, which exports straight to MapTool. Then either:
- Export to MapTool: press Export for VTT, choose MapTool, then choose Freeman’s STA2E Framework. Drag the .rptok file onto the map, and the framework sets the token up the first time it loads it.
- Import a Foundry VTT export: export for Foundry VTT, then press Import… on the framework’s Character or Ship tab.
Talents and traits come across with their full text. Tokens from a 1st Edition framework can be converted too: select the token and press Make it an STA2e Character on the Character tab.
New in 1.3.1
A rules pass: the framework was checked line by line against the Second Edition rules, and these were corrected.
- Rolls: dice bought after a free talent die cost 2 and 3. With Reserve Power rerouted, every complication on the task counts as two. The winner of an opposed task can spend their Momentum right away, then save the rest.
- Characters: a Fatigued character’s shut-down attribute fails opposed and assist rolls too; Stress recovery is capped at 3 per character per task; Supporting characters with no values are Defeated rather than Injured; Debilitating weapons make Injuries harder to treat.
- Momentum spends: Swift Action, Create Trait, Disarm, Keep the Initiative and Extra Minor Action are once per turn, and Swift Action adds +1 Difficulty to the next task.
- Allied NPCs: tick Ally this scene and an NPC uses the group’s Momentum and adds Threat like a player character.
- Starships: Ram works as a full attack; phaser arrays and salvos get Spread; Cumbersome weapons are +1 Difficulty; raised shields come back to their previous total after damage; NPC ships have no Reserve Power; Damage Control patches one breach at a time; every shaken result is rolled; another breach destroys a critically damaged ship.
- Transport: choose pad-to-pad, pad-to-site or site-to-site, assisted by the ship’s Sensors + Science.
Updating
Drag the new STA2e.mtlib onto the map. It replaces the old one and keeps your campaign’s Momentum, Threat and extended tasks. Import the token types again only when a version’s notes say so (1.3.1 doesn’t need it). The previous version, 1.3.0, stays available.
